Our day at the Capitol will be held this year on March 29th. We know that by then our legislators will be nearing the end of the session and will want to see that their hard work has been appreciated. We will have most of the Rotunda for exhibits, so plan to bring students and set up a display of their accomplishments and high quality products. Please let me know if you are planning to be there.
We are always looking for people who have an interest in helping with the event at the Capitol or monitoring the legislative session. If you would like to serve on that committee for MAGC, please let us know. My e-mail is cwp1gab@aol.com.
I hope you were able to make contact with the legislators from your area prior to the opening of the session. I think you will find that many of them have gifted children or were in gifted programs, themselves. Richard Bennett, our member of the House, has been a constant supporter of gifted education since his son was in the program. He is always available when I need him to speak to my students, guide them through a community problem solving project, or provide support in times of crisis. Call and invite your legislators to be a part of a project. They can give your students first-hand knowledge of the workings of government, and there is no better way to show them the importance of challenging opportunities for gifted children.
